Ghana football looks set to benefit immensely from MTN with the appointment of sports-biased Ebenezer Twum Asante as the new Chief Executive Officer of Ghanaian division of the telecommunication giants.

Asante replaces Serame Taukobong and becomes the first Ghanaian to occupy this position.

The appointment holds a lot of significance for Ghana football as Asante is noted to be an ardent sports fan.

He could lead an assault to clinch the sponsorship rights of the Premier League and even the Black Stars once the contracts of existing sponsors expire.

His bias towards sports in general could also see the other sports in Ghana who are in dire financial need get some relief.

MTN are already supporting Ghana football with their sponsorship of the FA Cup in recent years.

Asante, a product of the University of Ghana returns to Ghana after serving two years as CEO of MTN’s division in Rwanda.

He worked for 13 years with Unilever Ghana where he eventually became a member of the board prior to joining MTN back in 2008.
