Muangthong dealt Sarach Yooyen injury blow

Bangkok: Muangthong United’s AFC Champions League hopes have been dealt a blow with news that influential midfielder Sarach Yooyen has been ruled out for five to six months after breaking an ankle.

The talented 24-year-old suffered the injury on Friday during a Thai Premier League encounter at home to Sukhothai FC, with Muangthong later confirming that the Thailand international, who starred for the War Elephants during their recent AFF Championship title success, was to undergo surgery.

Muangthong are scheduled to begin their AFC Champions League 2017 Group E campaign on Tuesday with a tricky away trip to Australia’s Brisbane Roar.

Sarach’s enforced absence will also come as a major disappointment to Thailand head coach Kiatisuk Senamuang who will now be without a key player for upcoming fixtures against Saudi Arabia and Japan in the third round of qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
