Ghanaian defender Nana Akwasi Asare emerged victorious over his Ghanaian compatriot Bennard Kumordzi as the pair's clubs faced off in the Belgian top-flight on Friday evening.

Asare played full throttle for Gent who grabbed the maximum points with a 1-0 triumph at the Jules Ottenstadion but Kumordzi missed the game with injury.

27-year-old midfielder Sven Kums scored a 43rd minute penalty to seal the victory for the home side. The win has fired Gent to the summit of the table while Genk stay fifth with games scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.

Kumordzi missed the game as he has not yet gained full fitness from an injury that worried his season last term.
