Napoli boss Sarri blasts fixtures 'mistake' as Juventus get to play first

Maurizio Sarri said he was worried nobody had noticed the run of fixtures.

Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri has hit out at what he called a "gigantic mistake" in the fixture list, which has title rivals Juventus playing before his side for the next nine games in a row.

Napoli played before Juventus at the weekend, beating Atalanta 1-0 to go four points clear at the top before Juve play Genoa on Monday.

Speaking after his side's win, Sarri said: "This doesn't make any sense and it's a huge mistake.

"It is partly due to the fact that on a couple of occasions Juventus need to play earlier because of the Champions League, and we sometimes need to play on a Monday because of the Europa League.

"I fully understand that, but that would account for four of the matches where the decision was genuinely forced.

"Common sense would dictate that in the remaining matches at least there should have been some kind of mediation to ensure a more level playing field."

Sarri stressed that he was "sure it was a mistake made in good faith" but added: "What is really worrying is that no one noticed.

"At the FA there are people whose job this is, and they didn't even notice. It does make me doubt a little the capability of whoever it is deciding these things."

The coach added that he felt officials "could compromise and make us play at the same time, or allow us to play some of our games before them."
