Napoli reject Newcastle United offer for defender

Premier League club Newcastle United this week had an offer for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly rejected by the Serie A side.

Newcastle, who currently find themselves in a battle against relegation as they sit in 18th place in England’s top flight, are looking to strengthen their squad in order to avoid the drop.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the Magpies made a bid in the region of €8 million for the Senegalese defender, which was firmly turned down by Partenopei president Aurelio De Laurentiis.

Koulibaly, who moved to the Stadio San Paolo from Belgian side Genk in 2014, has featured 13 times in Serie A for Maurizio Sarri’s side this season.

Napoli, quite contrastigly to Newcastle, are currently challenging for silverware as they find themselves just one point behind league leaders Inter.
