Napoli are interested in signing Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Sportiello, but would loan the Italian back to the Bergamo side for the foreseeable future.

Sportiello has impressed many observers of Serie A with his performances for the Orobici this season and is seen as a possible long-term replacement for Gianluigi Buffon, in the Italian national team.

According to Sport Italia, the Partenopei would ideally like to sign the 23-year-old in January before loaning him back to La Dea for the rest of this season and next season, to guarantee Sportiello gets playing time.

Currently, Pepe Reina is the Neapolitans’ first-choice goalkeeper, however his contract expires in 2018 and with the Spaniard 33-years-old, Napoli would like to make contingency plans for his replacement.

This season Sportiello has kept six clean sheets for Atalanta from 19 Serie A appearances.
