Nepal league development takes further steps

Kathmandu: A follow-up visit under the AFC League Development Programme was conducted to Nepal recently.

The AFC Member Association Department’s visit last January was to assist the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) in drafting its four-year strategic plan.

The key objective this time around was to help finalise its football league and competitions calendar, as well as the league regulation to be presented to the ANFA competitions committee, local clubs and Executive Committee.

Meetings with the ANFA President, CEO and key officials also identified the importance of identifying venues for the league, including the ANFA facility. The AFC and ANFA officials visited two potential venues owned by the police and army to explain and discuss about the programme. The concerned authorities agreed in providing the stadiums for the league, with ANFA agreeing to maintain the stadium pitches and facilities.

All the clubs that would potentially participate in the league were invited and given a presentation on the objectives and key performance indices (KPIs). The AFC and ANFA also received feedback from the clubs regarding the calendar, and the following day, the league calendar was drafted and presented to the ANFA officials and the clubs which was agreed upon and will be published on the ANFA website and sent across the media and sponsors.

An AFC Expert Consultant is due to visit Nepal in April to finalise the regulations and assist ANFA in other competition matters. Other development activities such as marketing (league and clubs), live streaming, players support seminar and others will be planned once the league is up and running.
