Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has dismissed claims he changed Adam Kwarsey for Fatau Dauda at the 2014 World Cup due to complaints the Norway-based goalkeeper is unable to communicate with his teammates.

Rumours are rife that Kwarasey’s inability to speak the local dialect influenced his exclusion from the Black Stars’ squad that impressed against Germany in the second group game at the World Cup.

Some Black Stars players are said to have complained over the Stromsgodset captain’s communication skills to coach Kwesi Appiah during the World Cup.

This according to rumours was the reason Fatau Dauda was chosen ahead of Kwarasey to keep the post for Ghana after the first group defeat to the USA.

But coach Kwesi Appiah has dismissed these claims as false and baseless ahead of Ghana’s opening 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Uganda.

“Kwarasey has been with this team for the past two years and therefore if he is not able to communicate how come we kept him in the team all this while?” Appiah quizzed?

“In any case football has got nothing to do with languages. Asamoah Gyan plays in the UAE without understanding the language there.

“Normally as a coach what I do is that four hours before the match I present the team that is going to represent the nation.

“The first time I put out the team for the Germany game, Fatau Dauda was the one I choose so talks of me changing Kwarasey, I don’t know where that came from.

“All along we’ve tried to keep quiet over all these issues because as a manager you need to always protect your players.”

Kwarasey was not called up by coach Kwesi Appiah for this month’s games against Uganda and Togo.

The Norway-based goalkeeper made comments that sought to question the competence of Ghana’s goalkeeper’s trainer Nassam Yakubu after the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
