New Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah aiming to win back Black Stars fans

Kwesi Appiah will attempt to win back fans as Ghana coach after being re-appointed on a two-year deal on Tuesday.

The tenure of former coach Avram Grant marked a sensational nadir as many local fans lost interest in the team.

The low-water mark situation came on the heels of the country's wrecked 2014 World Cup campaign where the players held the West African nation to ransom.

Since the debacle, the players have not enjoyed support from fans - a situation the newly appointed coach must seek to address.

With Ghana's chances of qualifying to the 2018 World Cup in Brazil up in the air, there is concern that the national team could fall even further from favour, a situation Appiah should recognise all too well.

The 56-year-old, who enjoyed a groundswell of support from many Ghanaians, must create a winning side worthy of their passion.

Appiah has his work cut out for him as his first five matches in charge could prove the indices on how his return would turn out.
