Newly-appointed Ghana FA vice-president George Afriyie feels honoured but admits he must work hard to meet the huge expectations.

The Liberty Professionals director was confirmed as Kwesi Nyantakyi’s second-in-command after the first meeting of the newly elected powerful Executive Committee members on Thursday.

The highly-respected and tough character admits the enormity of task ahead as he will be required ensure the smooth running of football administration in Ghana.

“I am honoured to be named as the GFA President. This means the association believes in me and what I can bring on board,” he said

“My new position is a big challenge, so I need to work harder to meet the expectation of the association, because we find ourselves in a situation whereby everything of the FA is monitored closely by the media.”

Afriyie is a popular figure in Ghanaian football and regarded as a tough character to steer his new portfolio.
