Niger coach Rohr tips Ghana to win 2013 AFCON after thrashing

Published on: 28 January 2013

Niger coach Gernot Rohr says Ghana can go all the way to win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

Rohr made this comment after seeing his team torn into shreds by the Black Stars in the final Group B game on Monday.

Goals from striker Asamoah Gyan , Christian Atsu and John Boye secured Ghana a commanding 3-0 win at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

The win also sees the four-time African champions book a quarter final place as group winners and will now face Cape Verde.

The Niger coach after witnessing a complete annihilation of his team in Port Elizabeth now says Ghana can win the competition being staged in South Africa.

“Ghana is part of the good teams of this group alongside Mali and DR Congo,” Rohr said.

“For me I really admit Ghana can win this tournament.”

The German trainer’s comment joins chorus of praises being sung by many following the sterling performance of the Black Stars on Monday.

The team had prior to the Niger game been heavily criticized for throwing away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with DR Congo in the group opener and performing below-par in the 1-0 win over Mali.

Many however now believe the Ghana team are showing signs of a tournament winning side.

The Black Stars are now also overwhelming favourites to emerge the first team to make the semi finals in South Africa when they face Cape Verde on Saturday.
