Nigerian side Dolphins pull out of 'shambolic' four-club tourney in Ghana

Dolphins FC will no longer take part in the four-club tournament scheduled to start on Saturday in Ghana.

The former Nigeria champions were due to join Rangers, Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak but "logistical issues” ensured Dolphins remain in Port Harcourt," club media officer China Acheru said.

"There was a break down in communications between the organisers of the tournament and Dolphins, leading to the cancellation of the trip.

"We were ready to leave. The team was supposed to depart on Wednesday for Accra but suddenly the arrangements went awry and we had to stay back in Port Harcourt.

“Right now I cannot tell if the organizers have gone on without us or if the tournament would be played at a later date but we have continued to focus on our pre-season training,” Acheru said.

Dolphins may play a friendly match against Bayelsa United at the main bowl of the Port Harcourt Liberation Stadium on Saturday.

“We need to begin to play some of these serious friendly matches as the kick off date for the League approaches,” Acheru said.
