No Ghana return for Real Madrid star Michael Essien

Published on: 18 February 2013

Hopes of Michael Essien making a much awaited return to the senior national team, the Black Stars as the 2014 World Cup qualifiers get underway next month has received a severe jolt as the Real Madrid midfielder is not keen on returning to the team any time soon.

According to a close source to the on-loan Chelsea star, Essien is not particularly happy with the kind of treatment meted out to some of the senior players of the Black Stars some of whom were treated shabbily the Ghanaian football authorities as they entered the  twilight of their careers.

He privately concedes that officialdom are only interested in taking all the glory when things are running smooth, but quick to ignore the players whose toil led to national glories.

A case in point is Stephen Appiah who recently conceded that he doesn’t recollect the last time he had even a phone call from the Ghanaian football authorities, let alone being invited for the just-ended AFCON tournament.

Again Essien believes he won’t be in a position to warm the bench when he comes for national assignments to be ‘humiliated’ like other senior players and so prefers to enjoy his relatively peace at Madrid where he has gradually warmed his way into the scheme of things at the Los blancos.

Again he knows he’s getting to the latter stages of his career so he is being cautious of returning to the national team fold where he suffered most of his career threatening injuries.

With the pitches in Africa nothing good to write home about, Essien believes a new injury to his fragile knee will effectively mean an end to his career so the idea of him returning to the team for now is almost non-existent.

Homestly i dnt blame this guy one bit.cos at the end of the day.most of his black star collegues are not in the squred anymore. Thanks to the gfa with his corrupt entourage.what this idiotic coach does not realis is that experience counts a lot goin into a major tounament.honestly in my opinion he should hav invited laryer kingston and quincy and the ayews.insteadvhe took none experiance squred wat do u expect.Am not surprice that essian is feelin this way cos at the end of the day he is a very close friend to steven appiah.i bet u the gfa has not called none of the former players and ask them how they doing.if the gfa act like they dnt care bout them why should they give a shit,

People, this has got nothing to do with Kwesi Appiah. Do Ghanaian soccer fans really believe that the way forward for Black Stars is to bring in someone like Essien, definitely a great player, but one who is obviously in the twilight of his career? At his age and current form, is he now going to be running around and be up against young fit Burkinabe players for 120mins on a Mombela kind of pitch? It is best for him to enjoy the final years of his career in a safe environment and it is best for Black Stars to look to the future even if we don't win trophies in the meantime. After all, how many trophies have we won with all these names we keep mentioning?

He is no match to African football where he will meet players like Chisamba and Kalaba in the middle of the park to make fool of essien with dribbles. So mulekeni alelila abasungu amasuku pamitwe nama fluke yakwe. Taishiba bola as simple as that.

If he was looking for an European new contract he will definitely yearn to play for the national team for the all important and crucial exposure. Now he is rich and not hungry anymore, why bother himself with the Black Stars? These players should know that they didn't help the Black Stars. It was the other way round. The national team built them and made them what they are or have today. These grievances Essien is making are very unfortunate and selfish, as much as it is stupid. They are so egocentric when it comes to their own country. Appiah wanted the GFA to call, but he didn't want to call. This idiotic way of reasoning is a damn shame to him. What did they won for Ghana? NOTHING!! When you have no tangible excuse for your unreasonable actions, you turn to come up with such idiotic ones like these from Michael Essien. He'll rather kiss the asses of the European Managers and forsake the country that raised him. If you are a senior player, and a younger player is performing better than you why wouldn't you be on the bench. Where is the humiliation here. Check the Ivory Coast players and LEARN. Reading between the lines, Dan? When I read about Michael Essien sending Birthday wishes to Andre Ayew, as well as these insolent Ayew brothers making ridiculous allegations against the GFA about Kevin Prince Boateng, I knew there is a conspiracy streaming below the surface. They are in league together for their won selfish means. Now Stephen Appiah has join Essien, Andre and Jordan Ayew, Prince Boateng and some unscrupulous players who feel bigger than their own county to destabilize the National Team. THEY WILL FAIL AND BE SHAMED.

NO PANIC. The player in his OWN words availed himself for the WCQ and asked to be excused from Afcon. Besides This is coming from an unknown close source. I will reserve my comment until the 24th of march after the game against sudan. I will most importantly be observing player call-up, player response and performance of the team under manager A.A who claim to have learnt some lessons.

You'll talk and talk but nothing wil help u. Which football has Ghana ever played which could shake us? Ghana won those 4 AFCON cups wen two teams used to participate whereby you play home and away with vintage Ethopia and the winner carries the cup. This also depended on the strength of black magic where Ghana was and is a superpower. You could only let Ethopia win a cup. From black magic is where u derived the name of black stars of GHANA.

Your so-called Zambia, the fake champions couldn't win even ONE game at AFCON. You are a shameless person. It will take another 50 years for Zambia to touch any trophy. Ghana has won under 17 WORLD CUP 2x. Won under 20 WORLD CUP, the first in Africa. Quarter-Finalist at senior WORLD CUP. Tell us what has Zambia done in the world of soccer. Do not forget your current FIFA Football Ranking in Africa. Poor Zambia is full of bitterness, jealousy and envy.

I don't blame him its a shame how the GFA is treating these guys after all the sacrifice they have given to the country we needed them as much as they needed us and they deserve better treatment than that. They are human being not machines to be used and discarded. These corrupt officials are quick to vilify these guys at any given opportunity but want to take the glory when they achieve results. I couldn't believe it when I heard they haven't called Appiah since he retired after all his dedication and service what a shame. By the way the coach and Gyan must go they are both ass along with Nyantakyi.

It seems to me that the gfa aren't learning from anything continue reporting mistakes . Why even choose a captain whilst you can just make they it was. If mensah is not there's someone will be there to wear before we get clear picture that there's a need for replacement. When AA made that statement that, there will not be automatic garrantee for seniors they need to justify and fight for their position, then I know we heading towards destruction.

You win tournaments with what you have, material, talents, mental alertness, determination etc... At the end of the day what matters is the win, not how you won... Black Magic or not... only Zambians care, nobody else does. Envying Ghana for our achievements will not help Zambia. Just do your homework if you want to follow in the footsteps of Ghana.

What do you want to GFA to do? Set up and office, staff it and pay the workers with tax payers money just so that old and retired players can be contacted? For what??? What country does that??? Going into a tournament, any old or retired player interested in the tournament can buy their own ticket and go, you don't need to be sponsored by GFA.

Sadly, Ghana football is backsliding and going back to the days when the team lacked unity. A house divided itself cannot stand. Blames are being apportioned left and right. But no one is willing to start a sincere reconciliation process. These players are insiders as much as the officials of the GFA. And so, they deserve some listening ear. The officials of the GFA are equally paid with our tax and must be held accountable if they can't manage these players. Why is it not just one player who is complaining? Why is it that the team is failing to perform as expected? Who is telling us the truth and who is not?
