No Ghanaian referee selected for 2013 African Youth Championship

There was no Ghanaian referee named in Caf’s shortlist for this month’s African Youth Championship in Algeria.

Despite the impressive performance of linesmen AS Malik and David Laryea at the just ended Africa Cup of Nations, none was deem good enough for the March 16-30 tournament.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Tuesday released a list of 12 centre men including two on standby and 16 assistant referees with two on standby.

Referees from less-endowed football countries such as Djibouti, Seychelles, Burundi, Chad and Eritrea made the list to show how lowly Ghana is regarded in this field.

The development comes as a massive blow to Ghanaian referees who were thought to be making progress.

The 2013 African Youth Championship will be contested by eight countries with the four semi-finalists qualifying to the FIFA U20 World Cup in Turkey.

The Black Satellites are in group A alongside hosts Algeria, Benin and Egypt.
