No replacement for AFCON-bound John Mensah at Lyon

Lyon coach Remi Garde claims there will be no replacement for John Mensah who will be at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Mensah, Ghana captain, will join his international teammates for a pre-tournament camping at Rustenburg, South Africa.

The centre-back has made one appearance for Lyon this season.

Lyon will also be without Bakary Kone who will join Burkina Faso for the Nations Cup.

Veteran centre-half Cris is nursing a thigh problem.

"Reinforcements? We are studying the situation," he told L'Equipe.

"The easiest thing to do would be to reinforce the squad to make up for those absences. But you can't then play everybody and the group could lose its balance.

"We must not forget that the African Cup of Nations could be over for the likes of Kone at the end of January.

"I am also waiting to see how quickly Cris can recover.

"We would prefer to manage the situation with the squad we already have, perhaps playing some midfielders in defence."
