Thandani Ntshumayelo has vowed to fight for his place at Orlando Pirates and says he does not see the arrival of Ghana midfielder Edwin Gyimah as a threat to his stay at the Soweto giants. The diminutive midfielder said he will work hard to regain his place in the team and believes Gyimah has joined merely to strengthen their squad ahead of a tough season that also includes playing in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The midfielder told Goal that he welcomes competition from Gyimah.

“I really do not understand why people are saying Gyimah is a threat to me,” he said to Goal.

“I’m not afraid of competition and I joined Pirates when they had Andile Jali and I can’t be afraid of another player.

“I’m a fighter and will fight for my place in the team.

“It’s still early in the season and there are a lot of games coming up.”

Issa Sarr is currently Eric Tinkler’s first choice in the holding midfield position while ‘Bibo’ has largely played the role of understudy.

Earlier this week Tinkler told Goal that Bibo remains in his plans.

The Buccanneers coach confirmed Ntshumayelo's suspicion in his chat with Goal earlier this week by hinting that Gyimah was indeed brought in as cover ahead of what will be a gruelling season for his fatigued side.
