Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi has ridiculed suggestions that the GFA used the name of the late Jordan Anagblah to claim Appearance fees at the Brazil 2014 World Cup describing those behind such suggestions as uninformed mischievous persons.

Nyantakyi who was appearing for the second straight day at the Commission was puzzled at how someone could even suggest that the name of a public figure who died in 2012, could be used to claim monies in 2014 from the State.

Explaining the whole issue of the Honorarium paid to Management officials, Nyantakyi informed the Commission that the Honorarium paid to Management was not limited to only Management Committee members but to all persons deemed to have played a role in the success of the team.

He stated that the practice of paying Honorarium cut across all National Teams and that anytime a National Team was engaged in an activity, a lump sum of money was dedicated to the Management and that money was shared by anyone at the GFA or beyond who was thought to have played a role to aid the team.

He said that the lump sum was calculated by multiplying what each player got by a particular coefficient, which always varies. Though he was not sure, he stated that in Germany 2006 and South Africa 2010 for example, a coefficient which he was certain was less 4 or 5, was used to calculate the Management Honorariums which was then shared by all officials deemed to have aided the team, both at the GFA and outside the GFA. He said that the same practice applies to all National Teams and noted that it was only a coincidence that the coefficient used in 2014 was the same number (7) as the number originally appointed to the Black Stars Management Committee.

“My Lord, I have even heard some say that we used Jordan Anagblah’s name to take the appearance fee and signed on his behalf. This is coming from uninformed people. How can we use the name of someone who died in 2012 when this budget was prepared in 2014? In any case, because this money is not personal but for the whole collective determined to have played management roles, only the General Secretary signs and is given the lump sum and when it is distributed, no one signs, not even me,” he told the Commission.

Nyantakyi who was ready to provide the names of some of the people outside the Management Committee who took the money but eventually did not, still mentioned Emmanuel Gyimah, General Secretary of the FA and Mr. Felix Ansong, Vice President of the Association, who are all not members of the Black Stars Management Committee, as persons who were present in Brazil and received part of the monies.

He also disclosed that persons at the Ministry of Sports and even those outside the GFA and the Ministry of Sports received part of the monies as they were deemed to have helped the team.

“When we go to tournaments we don’t go with a management committee. For instance Mr Fred Crentsil was there but he wasn’t a member of the management committee, he was there as the vice president of the GFA. The state knew that the money was not only for the management committee. In 2010 and 2006, I wasn’t part of Management Committee but I was head of delegation”, he said.
