Odartey Lamptey questions decision to axe Andre Ayew from Ghana's AFCON squad

Former Ghana international Nii Odartey Lamptey has spoken out on his unhappiness with the dropping of Andre Ayew from the Ghana team.

The Marseille winger injured his hamstring at club training and did not make the trip to Abu Dhabi where the Black Stars are training.

National team coach Kwesi Appiah wasted no time in announcing that Ayew will play no part in Ghana's tournament in South Africa this month.

Lamptey believes that the decision made was too hasty a call and that Ayew's quality will be missed.

"I am a bit disappointed with the decision to drop Andre. I feel he is a key player and more could have been done to have made him join the team. He is one of the best players in the squad."

Lamptey however says that Ghanains should still get behind coach Kwesi Appiah and his team.

"But, that said, Kwesi Appiah is the coach and he has the final say. It is now up to all of us to support him and the team so that they bring what we all crave."

Ayew has now travelled to Marrakech in Morocco, to join up with the Olympique Marseille camp.
