Open letter to coach Duncan and his team from a Kotoko fan in China

A China-based Asante Kotoko fan Elvis Owusu has written a letter to head coach David Duncan and his troops on the shortfalls he finds with the team.

Owusu claims he watched their opening 2-0 defeat at WAFA SC in Sogakope and believes there were some mistakes which must be corrected.

His observations were mailed to GHANASoccernet.com and below are the details:

Dear Coach Duncan,

Best of the day to you and your entire team, the management, technical team and the players!

You may wonder where this greeting is coming from? It's from Elvis in Shanghai, China, an ardent and concerned fan of the Great Club, Asante Kotoko!

As you are aware more than I do, the new soccer league season is just 2 matches old.

But there is a concern I would like to voice out to you, the head of the technical team, the management and the playing body of Asante Kotoko.

1. Things were not very easy for Kotoko last season, but you were spared much blame because, you took the team from another coach, with the excuse that, you did not put together the playing body, I mean the players you came to meet last season. Granted!

But You put together this season's team and we would not accept any more excuses!

I noticed some shortcomings of the team last season, and I thought you have had enough time to work on them, but your first game against young WAFA lads showed otherwise!

a) Your back, I mean the defense is very porous and leaking badly!

b) Your attack is not potent as it should be and the earlier you do something about it, the better!

c) Your mid-field is nothing to write home about! So coach, I hope you would receive this letter and work on the issues I have stated above!

2. I want to tell the players that, playing for Kotoko is no child's play! From the information I have, Kotoko players are well catered for than most of the teams, and I don't see why this should not be a motivational factor to spur you on to play with your heart for the club!

Before the league began, Kotoko supporters were given so much hope that, Kotoko were going to be unbeatable this season, but the first game against WAFA was just heartbreaking!

I hope the entire team would sit up and do all that need to be done, and win most of the subsequent games, especially, home matches!

3. Almost all fans and supporters follow this club with out delicate hearts and the more you lose games, the more you indirectly give people heart diseases!

Just remember one thing, Kotoko is seen as a religion, but, not just a mere football club by the numerous fans and supporters!

Some of us stay up to listen or watch your games at odd times in the night as late as 11pm - 2am here in China and other places due to time differences between Ghana and China!

Some of us spend time fasting and praying for you to be able to win games just for our happiness, but no other benefits!

If you know the effects on most of your fans and supporters when you win or lose games, you would always play your hearts out and win games for us!

I shall return as the season moves on to either congratulate you or .....!

Till then, May God bless the entire team, Amen!!!

Your ardent fan! Elvis, Shanghai, China
