Osei-Kuffour dares Bayern squad to surpass his 2001 Champs League winning mates
Samuel Osei Kuffour won the UEFA Champions League with Bayern Munich in 2001.

Ex-Bayern Munich star Samuel Osei-Kuffour has challenged the current squad to show their mettle by winning tonight's UEFA Champions League final against rivals Dortmund.

The Ex-Ghana international was a member of the Bavarian's 2001 squad which lifted the coveted trophy at the expense of Spanish side Valencia on penalties.

Jupp Heynckes' current side have been flamboyant especially after a 7-0 aggregate over title favourites Barcelona in the semi-final.

But Kuffour says they can only be likened to gladiators if they lift the trophy at Wembley.

"For now they are not better than the 2001 squad. They have to win the Champions League first. The Champions League is the ultimate in European football and the 2001 team won it," he told Goal.com in an interview.

"During our run we beat Barcelona 2-1 so, as they beat them 7-0, it is a great achievement but they have to get their hands on the trophy before we can start talking about them being better than us.

"The 2001 squad won the Bundesliga and Champions League making it a double, so if they win Champions League and DFB-Pokal to add to their league title then that will make them treble winners. I can say after that they are better than us."

Kuffour was a member of the Bayern squad which lost to Manchester United at the death in the 1999 final played at the Camp Nou.
