Ostersunds FK defender Samuel 'Mensiro' Mensah has been crowned 2017 Right to Dream Academy player of the year award.

The versatile Ostersunds FK guardsman was nominated for the 2017 Right to Dream Academy player of year award alongside well established players such as David Accam, Godsway Donyoh, Thomas Agyepong, Abu Danladi as well as Ghana's U-17 duo Sadiq Ibrahim and Kudus Mohammed.

However, the 28-year-old's stellar performances for the Red and Blacks in the Swedish Allsvenskan league as well as the UEFA Europa League did not go unnoticed as he clinched the coveted gong.

Mensah played an important role in Ostersunds FK's fairy tale run in the UEFA Europa League as they finished as runners up in their group and qualified for the round of 32 stage where they will meet English Premier League giants Arsenal FC.

Following his virtuoso performance for Graham Potter's outfit, Mensah has been strongly linked with a move to clubs in Germany, Denmark and France but the club is doing everything possible to keep him at the Jemkraft Arena with a three-year contract extension proposal.

He made 35 appearances in all competitions and registered one goal for Ostersunds FK last term.
