Defender John Paintsil is aiming at helping Ghana end it's wait for an African title as he makes his fifth Nations Cup appearance in South Africa.

The 31-year-old joins Richard Kingson and Abedi Pele as the only Ghanaian players to have made five appearances at a Nations Cup final.

The Hapoel Tel Aviv defender now wants to make this fear even more memorable by helping the Black Stars end a 31-year wait for an African title.

“This tournament I will say will be the most important one in my career, “ he told Kumasi-based Angel FM.

“I am therefore ready to help the team win the trophy to make it even an even more memorable achievement rather than it being my fifth appearance at the tournament.”

Paintsil is part of Ghana’s provisional 26-man squad that will be heading to Abu Dhabi early January for a pre-Nations Cup camp.

He is however more likely to make the final cut that will travel to South Africa for the tournament proper.

Ghana is drawn in Group B which will be based in Port Elizabeth alongside Mali, Niger and DR Congo.
