Greek giants Panathinaikos hope the international break will boost the recovery of Michael Essien who has been battling injuries.

The Ghana international is yet to be match ready after undergoing surgery three months ago when he joined the Greens on a free transfer.

Panathinaikos believe the break will help the former Chelsea midfielder to catch up with teammates for the league match against PAS Giannina on 19 October.

On Tuesday, Essien continued his individual training program until the end of the week as he seeks to be in shape before joining his teammates in training.
