Patrick Twumasi’s Astana have been eliminated from the Champions League after their 2-2 home draw against Benfica but are still in with a chance to make the Europa League berth.

The Kazakhstan Premier League champions, unbeaten at home in Europe elite inter-club competition in their debut season, could only manage to share the spoils against the Portuguese.

Ghanaian striker Patrick Twumasi opened the scoring for the side in the 19th minute witha brilliant headerbefore Marin Aničić added the second on 31 minutes.

But Raúl Jiménez’s brace ensured the two teams shared the points at the Astana Arena.

The draw ends a fairy tale story for the side who became the first Kazakh side to play in the group stage of the Champions League.

However Astana could still overtake Galatasaray for third and a place in the Europa League ahead of the final group games.
