Pellegrini furious at Clattenburg as Man City downed by Tottenham

Manuel Pellegrini was livid with referee Mark Clattenburg in the wake of Manchester City's unlucky 2-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Clattenburg awarded Spurs a penalty less than 10 minutes into the second half at the Etihad Stadium when Danny Rose's cross from the left cannoned into the elbow of Raheem Sterling.

The winger had his arm tucked away when the ball struck, making the decision a very dubious one from the match official, who was involved in a couple of questionable decisions when City were beaten 4-1 by Spurs at White Hart Lane in September.

It was a decision which caused ire among the City camp with Pellegrini left to bemoan what might have been as his side stayed six points behind league leaders Leicester City but fell four in arrears of Spurs snd third-placed Arsenal.

"More important than my view of penalty is that everyone saw what happened," said the Chilean.

"Unfortunately for us it was the same referee, Clattenburg, as when we lost against Tottenham in the first round with two clear goals offside.

"It was a penalty that was decisive for the game. I don't have nothing more to say."

Pellegrini approached the fourth official after the match and was asked by reporters what he had said: "Just to congratulate the referee - about the decision."

He added: "For me I don't think it is a good decision to have the same referee but I don't want to talk any more about that."

And was then pressed further by the media: "I am finished with the referee."

Harry Kane opened the scoring in the 53rd minute from the ensuing penalty before Kelechi Iheanacho responded for City prior to Christian Eriksen's 83rd-minute winner.
