Following Gianluigi Buffon’s record breaking run of 973 minutes without conceding a Serie A goal for Juventus, former Bianconeri midfielder Simone Pepe believes the Italy No.1 deserves to win the Ballon d’Or.
Andrea Belotti’s penalty in the recent Derby della Mole ended the 38-year-old’s remarkable run, as he took the record of most consecutive minutes without concession from AC Milan legend Sebastiano Rossi.
“He is not a silent leader,” Chievo midfielder Pepe said of Buffon while speaking to Tiki Taka. “You feel his influence in the dressing room, but he is always keen to joke and have a laugh, too.
“For what he has done not only this season but throughout his career, he deserves to win the Ballon d’Or. Ideally, we could have one for Gigi and one for [Lionel] Messi.”
