Performance of Ghanaian players abroad: Andre Ayew scores, Thomas Partey misses penalty

England

Ghana winger Andre Ayew scored for West Ham United in their 2-2 away draw against Sunderland in the English Premier League at the Stadium of Light on Saturday. Ayew scored his fifth goal of the season helping the Hammers to secure their safety. His brother Jordan who plays for Swansea City lost his starting place in the team and only came on as a substitute for Llorente in in the 81st minute as they lost 1-0 at Watford.

Ghana defender Jeffery Schlupp was in action for Crystal Palace on Saturday helping them to edge towards Premier League survival with their 2-2 draw against his former club Leicester City on Saturday. Schlupp played for 69 minutes as Palace fought back from two goals down in an absorbing draw with Leicester at Selhurst Park. His compatriot Daniel Amartey was left on the Leicester City bench for the entire duration of the game.

In the Championship, Andy Yiadom was not considered for Barnsley selection in the 3-2 defeat at Wigan while Christian Atsu was an unused substitute for Newcastle in their disappointing 1-1 home draw with Leeds United. Midfielder Albert Adomah played the full match of Aston Villa’s 3-1 home defeat at the hands of Reading.

 

Spain

Thomas Partey missed a penalty in the 90th minute for Atletico Madrid while playing the full duration of their 3-0 win over Osasuna. Kevin-Prince Boateng absence for Las Palmas proved costly as the one match accumulated yellow card suspension probably led to their 5-1 thrashing by Athletic Bilbao who had Inaki Williams setting up the second goal for the home side. He was substituted in the 79th minute by Susaeta. Mubarak Wakaso also ended up on the losing side after his Granada side were hammered 3-0 at home by Celta Vigo. The Black Stars enforcer received the yellow card in the 38th minute but he played the full match.

In the second tier Segunda league, goalkeeper maintained his place on the Cordoba bench as they defeated Almeria 1-0 leaving the 17th on the 22-team league.

Italy

Ghana midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah played the entire duration for Juventus as they beat Sulley Muntari's Pescara 2-0 in the Italian Serie A on Saturday. Asamoah was instrumental in the victory with Gonzalo Higuain bagging a brace to give Juventus a 2-0 victory away to Pescara. Muntari played just before 58 minutes before he was substituted by Ahmed Benali as a precautionary measure after the Ghanaian received the yellow card early in the game. The victory ensured that Asamoah's side extended their Serie A lead, but Paulo Dybala went off with an ankle injury. Emmanuel Agyemang Badu received a first minute yellow card in Udinese 3-0 battering at Napoli with the Ghanaian playing the entire duration of the match. Godfred Donsah looks to be still nursing an injury as he was not in Bologna’s team that drew goalless at Palermo. Suspension for Afriyie Acquah means he could not feature for Torino in their 1-1 home draw against Crotone who had Boadu Acosty on their bench. Isaac Cofie was also serving a suspension as he was not available for Genoa in their 2-2 home draw against Lazio. Alfred Duncan was a second half substitute in Sassuolo’s 2-1 win over Sampdoria as he came on in the 76th minute to fortify their midfield. His Ghanaian compatriot Claud Adjepong also came on for Sassuolo with the striker taking in the place Politano with four minutes remaining. 19-year-old Ghanaian striker Bismark Ngissah was not part of Chievo’s side that lost 4-0 to Cagliari.

In the Serie B, Ransford Selassio was on the Novara bench in their 2-2 home draw with Hellas Verona. Bright Addae was also on the bench with his team Ascoli drawing 1-1 with Frosinone who excluded Prince Emmanuel Duodo Besea from their squad. Patrick Asmah is still injured so was not in the Avellino team that defeated Capri 1-0. Masahudu Alhassan was not in the Perugia team that was beaten 3-0 Trapani. Raman Chibsah was substituted at half time as his side Benevento lost 1-0 away to Cittadela and his Ghanaian team-mate Bright Gyamfi was not even part of the squad. Moses Odjer played the entire game for Salernitana who lost 1-0 in Ternana. Isaac Donkor was not in the Cesena team that secured an important 1-0 win in Pisa to boost their survival chances. Bottom side Latina lost 1-0 at home to Vicenza without their Ghanaian player Nelson Atiagli. League leaders SPAL were without Shaka Mawuli in the 3-1 win Brescia. Procelli defeated Virtus Entella 1-0 with Evans Osei on the bench for the winning side.

Germany

In the Bundesliga injured Baba Rahman and Bernard Tekpetey were not in the Schalke team that suffered a 2-1 shock defeat at Darmstadt.

In the Bundesliga II, Lumor Agbenyenu was in full time action for 1860 Munich in their 1-1 draw at Sandhausen. Defender Phil Ofosu Aryeh was in full time action for Eintracht Braunschweig in their 1-0 defeat in Hannover.

Ghanaian duo of Ebenezer Ofori and Hans Nunoo Sarpei are not in action for Stuttugart until later Monday when they face Arminia Bielefeld.

France

Lorient striker Majeed Waris played the entire duration as they were beaten 2-0 at Montpellier. His compatriot Alhassan Wakaso sat on the bench for the entire duration of the game as their battled against relegation continued on Saturday. The result left Lorient 18th on the 20-team table with five matches remaining. Bastia’s Geoffrey Acheampong could not get to play the match against Marseille as the game was postponed.

In Ligue 2 Ghana defender Daniel Opare was not part of the Lens team that lost 1-0 at home to Auxerre. Black Stars striker Ebenezer Assifuah of Le Havre was also not part of his side’s squad for the weekend’s game as they lost 2-0 to Amiens. Ghanaian defender Emmanuel Ntim set up a goal when he came on as a second half substitute with his club Valenciennes winning 2-0 away at Bourge En Bresse. Ntim came on in the 67th minute and set up Fulgini in the 88th minute to secure the victory.

Holland

Talented Twente midfielder Yaw Yeboah played for 86 minutes before he was substituted in their 3-0 win over NEC Nijmegen in the Dutch top-flight.

Go Ahead Eagles are on the brink of relegation and the absence of their Ghanaian stirker Elvis Manu compounded their woes as they were defeated 2-0 by Willem II to leave them bottom of the table with 23 points with three matches remaining.

In the Eerste Divisie, Thomas Agyepong was on the bench for NAC Breda who were defeated 2-1 by Helmond Sport.

Austria

Ghana defender Kadri Mohammed was a late substitute for Austria Wien who thrashed Mattersburg 3-0 away from home. The former AshGold centre-back iun the 87th minute to help protect the emphatic win with David Atanga playing the entire duration for the losing side.

In Liga 1, Kennedy Boateng was on the bench for Lask Linz who defeated Austria Lustenau 2-0. Gideon Mensah provided the assist for Luan to score the only goal in the game for Liefering to beat home side Horn.

Turkey

The league was not played over the weekend because of the Turkish election but there was midweek action. Kamal Issah was instrumental in Genclerbirligi’s 1-0 win over Gaziantepspor who had Mohammed Fatau playing the entire duration. Issah was substituted in the 67th minute.
