Performance of Ghanaian players abroad wrap up: Boateng, Otoo, Partey, Wakaso claim headline as Appiah excels for Anderlecht

It was a dry weekend for Ghanaian players in the various league championships across the world.

But Kevin-Prince Boateng captured the headlines in Germany with a scintillating display for Frankfurt, where he scored a magnificent goal.....ouch! Thomas Partey and Mahatma Otoo also hit the back of the net for Athletic Madrid and Balikesirspor respectively.

Dennis Appiah registered an assist for the second consecutive time for Anderlecht in their six- goal thriller against Standard Liege.

Reuben Obodai has a lowdown on how Ghanaian players fared across the globe over the weekend.

ENGLAND 

Daniel Amartey was not included in Leicester City squad that annihilated Peterborough 5-1 in the FA Cup Round of 16. 

Andre Ayew was not added to West Ham United squad that suffered a 2-0 defeat at Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup Round of 64. Ayew’s future is up in the air after manager David Moyes claimed an improved offer from Swansea City could be accepted.

Collins Quaner enjoyed full throttle for Huddersfield in their 1-1 draw with Birmingham City in the FA Cup Round of 16.

Jordan Ayew made a cameo appearance for Swansea City as they drew 1-1 with Notts County in the FA Cup Round of 16.

In the Championship, Phil Ofosu-Ayeh missed the Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 win over Ipswich Town through injury.

Andy Yiadom, who has been heavily linked with a move away from FC Barnsley, played the entire period for the side in their 3-1 defeat at home to Fulham. Dennis Odoi lasted 45 minutes for the victors.

In League One, Kwesi Appiah missed AFC Wimbledon 4-0 win at Bradford through injury.

Bernard Mensah warmed the bench for Bristol Rovers in their 3-1 win at Doncaster Rovers.

Nana Ofori-Twumasi enjoyed full period for Maidstone in their 2-1 loss at Gateshead. Darius Osei meanwhile, lasted 70 minutes for the losers.

Harold Odametey was excellent for Maidenhead as they walloped Chester 3-0 at home. His compatriot Nana Owusu warmed the bench for the victors.

Midfielder Nortei Nortey lasted 78 minutes for Dover Athletic in their 2-1 win over Guiseley.

Kwame Thomas lasted full throttle for Solihull in their 3-1 win at Dagenham & Red. Ben Frempah was an unused.

Declan Appau warmed the bench for Woking as they pipped Fylde 1-0 at home.

Koby Arthur was not included in Macclesfield squad that played out a 1-1 draw with Torquay.

SPAIN

Thomas Partey climbed off the bench to seal the win for Atletico Madrid as they saw off Las Palmas 3-0 at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Emmanuel Boateng was superb for Levante when he was introduced at half time as they fought from a two-goal deficit to play 2-2 with Deportivo La Coruna.

Mubarak Wakaso was magnificent in the middle of the park for Deportivo La Coruna in their 2-1 loss against Barcelona at the Camp Nou.

In the Segunda Division, Yaw Yeboah was not included in Real Oviedo squad that played goalless draw with Reus Deportiu. 

ITALY

Kwadwo Asamoah picked a booking and lasted 72 minutes for Juventus in their 2-0 at Chievo Verona.

Godfred Donsah, who is mooted to be on his way out of Bologna, made a cameo appearance for the side in their 3-1 defeat against league leaders SS Napoli at the Stadio San Paolo.

Afriyie Acquah, who has popped up the radar of struggling Serie A side SPAL, made a cameo appearance for Torino as they thump Benevento Calcio 3-0 at home.

Alfred Duncan lasted 76 minutes for Sassuolo in their 3-0 loss to Atalanta at the Mapei Stadium. Claud Adjapong warmed the bench for the losers.

Isacc Cofie warmed the bench for Genoa in their 1-0 loss against Udinese at the Luigi Ferarri Stadium.

In the Serie B, defender Isaac Donkor lasted the entire duration for AC Cesena in their 1-0 loss at Venezia.

Bright Addae played full minutes for Ascoli in their 2-0 defeat at Pro Vercelli on Saturday.

Yusif Rahman Chibsah picked a booking but lasted the entire duration of the game for Frosinone as they beat Cittadella 2-1. Emmanuel Besea wrlarmed the bench for the victors.

FRANCE

Enock Kwarteng was not included in Nantes squad that recorded a 3-0 win over Guingamp.

Ebenezer Assifuah picked a booking and lasted 76 minutes for Le Havre in their 2-1 over Nimes.

Lawrence Ati-Zigi warmed the bench for Sochaux Montbilliard in their 1-1 with Chateauroux. 

GERMANY 

Ebenezer Ofori was not part of the VfB Stuttgart squad lost 2-0 at home to Schalke 04. Bernard Tekpetey also missed the Royals Blues match day squad.

Daniel Opare played full throttle for Augsburg 1-1 draw with FC Cologne.

Kevin-Prince Boateng opened the scoring for Eintracht Frankfurt as they defeated Borussia Monchengladbach 2-0 at the Commenz-Bank Arena.

Defender Steffen Nkansah was outstanding for Eintracht Braunschweig in their 3-1 win at Aue. Joseph Baffo missed the match for the victors through injury.

Diawusie Agyemang lasted 81 minutes for Wehen in their 1-0 win over Unterhaching. Meanwhile, Michael Akoto warmed the bench for the victors.

Marcel Appiah lasted 45 minutes for VfL Osnabruck as they played out a 2-2 draw with Fortuna Cologne. Bernard Kyere picked a booking but lasted full period for Cologne.

BELGIUM

Bernard Kumordzi was used as a makeshift central defender for Kortrijk in their goalless draw with KAS Eupen. Eric Ocansey lasted 85 minutes for Eupen but there was no place for young goalkeeper Abdul Manaf-Nurudeen.

William Owusu Acheampong picked a booking but lasted entire duration of Royal Antwerp 1-1 draw at Sporting Charleroi.

Nana Akwesi Asare exhibited a solid display for KAA Gent as they beat Jupilar Pro League leaders Club Brugge 2-0 at home.

Nana Opoku Ampomah picked a booking for Waasland-Beveren in their 2-2 draw with Zulte Waregem.

Dennis Appiah provided an assist for Anderlecht in their 3-3 draw with Standard Liege. Francis Amuzu made a cameo appearance for the Purple and White lads.

Joseph Aidoo was a pillar at the back for KRC Genk in their 1-1 draw with Sint Truiden. William Owusu picked a booking but lasted full throttle for Sint Truiden.

Osah Bernardinho Tetteh warmed the bench for Westerlo in their 1-0 win over OHL Leuven.

FINLAND

Anthony Annan and Evans Mensah played full throttle for HJK Helsinki as they walloped Gnistan 8-0 in the Suomen Cup.

NETHERLANDS

Derrick Luckassen was introduced in the 71st minute for PSV Eindhoven in their 2-0 win over FC Twente.

Jonathan Opoku was introduced at half time for VVV Venlo in their 1-0 win at NAC Breda. Thomas Agyepong missed the match through injury.

Asumah Abubakar missed Willem II 2-0 loss to AZ Alkmaar through injury.

In the Eerste Divisie, Leroy Owusu was an unused substitute for Almere City in their 2-1 win at Helmond.

Rodney Antwi netted for Voledam as they beat Go Ahead Eagles in a seven-goal thriller. There was no place for Shadrach Eghan in the losers match day squad.

NIGERIA

Goalkeeper Fatawu Dauda was in superb form for Enyimba FC in their 1-1 draw at River United FC. Farouk Mohammed also lasted full throttle for Enyimba FC.

MEXICO

Clifford Aboagye lasted 70 minutes for Atlas FC in their 1-0 loss at Club America.  

SOUTH AFRICA

Richard Kissi Boateng picked a booking and lasted 73 minutes for SuperSport United as they were thump 4-1 by Bidvest Wits. Edwin Gyimah also picked a booking before being taken off on the 65th minute mark.

Bernard Morrison was not added to Orlando Pirates squad that recorded a 2-0 win at Platinum Stars. The midfielder is reported to be closing in on a move to Turkey.

Samuel Darpoh warmed the bench for Amazulu FC in their goalless draw with Polokwane City FC.

Goalkeeper Razak Brimah continued his bench warning exercise for Mamelodi Sundowns as they played out a pulsating goalless draw with Kaizer Chiefs

Richard Ofori picked a booking but lasted full minutes of action for Maritzburg United in their 1-1 draw with Chippa United.

Mohammed Anas warmed the bench for Free State Stars as they held Ajax Cape Town to a goalless draw. Mumuni Abubakar was not included in Free State Stars match day squad.

Nana Bempah-Akosah enjoyed full action for Cape Town City FC  in their 1-1 stalemate with Bloemfontein Celtic.

SCOTLAND

Danny Amankwaa made his debut for Heart of Midlothian as a late substitute in their 1-1 draw with Motherwell. However, Prince Buaben was not included in Jambos match day squad.

TUNISIA

Nicholas Opoku was a stalwart for Club Africain as they beat Stade Tunisien 2-1 on Saturday. 

TURKEY

Kamal Issah was an unused substitute for Genclerbirligi in their 2-1 victory over Konyaspor. Elvis Manu missed the game for the victors through injury.

John Boye enjoyed 40 minutes of action as a substitute since his recovery from injury as Sivasspor suffered a 1-0 loss at Yeni Malatyaspor.

Asamoah Gyan warmed the bench for Kayserispor in their 1-1 draw with Goztepe at home.

Bernard Mensah provided an assist for Kasimpasa 2-1 defeat Besiktas.

Issac Sackey was in inspiring form for Alanyaspor as they inflicted a 3-1 defeat on Bursaspor. Emmanuel Agyemang Badu was not added to the Green Crocodile squad likewise compatriot Kofi Atta.

Mahatma Otoo scored his tenth league goal for Balikesirspor as they beat Erzurum BB 2-0 at home.

Jerry Akaminko lasted full period for Eskisehirspor in their 1-0 loss at Elazigspor.
