PFAG praises historic quarter-finalists Black Maidens

The Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) has congratulated the Ghana U17 women's team for their progress at the World Cup in Azerbaijan.

The Black Maidens made history as the first Ghanaian female side to progress beyond the group stage of any FIFA Women's World Cup finals on Sunday.

Coach Mas-Ud Dramani's team beat China 2-0 to seal qualification into the quarter finals having lost their opening game to Germany.

However, a resounding 5-0 win against Uruguay in the second group game revived their chances and the Maidens took full advantage of that against the Steel Roses.

"The PFAG congratulates Coach Dramani and the U 17 females for a great victory against a strong opponent like China," a PFAG statement said.

"We wish the entire squad and the technical team a good continuation towards their next encounter.

"Thumbs up for a fantastic team and fighting spirit. Well done maidens."

Ghana faces an uphill task in the quarter finals of the competition as they come up against giants Japan on Friday.
