Philadelphia Union have selected Ghanaian defender Joshua Yaro with the second overall pick in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft.

Yaro, 21, is a double major in anthropology and international relations who once spent two years at the Right to Dream Academy in his native Ghana before moving to the United States.

The Generation Adidas signing, who has long been the consensus No. 1 selection, has the ability to play in both central defense and at right-back, and will be expected to start from the opening day of the season for a Chicago side that conceded a league-worst 58 goals last season.

A supremely gifted athlete, Yaro has all of the physical tools to become a cornerstone of Philadelphia's backline - regardless of where he plays - for the foreseeable future, and will likely see plenty of playing time during his inaugural season at Talen Energy Stadium.
