PSV Eindhoven coach Philip Cocu has leapt to the defence of Derrick Luckassen following his horror display in their heavy loss against Willem II in the Eredivisie over the weekend.

The Dutch-born Ghanaian guardsman had a nightmare at the Koning Willem II Stadion after he was taken to the cleaners by the home side and capped his disappointing afternoon with a red card in the dying embers of the game as PSV Eindhoven were demolished 5-0.

The 22-year-old defender has come under heavy criticisms from the club's fans, with some even calling for him to be sold in the summer.

However, Cocu has jumped to his rescue as he blamed the whole team's performance for their mulling rather than pin-pointing the blame on one player.

“I am satisfied with him (Derrick) at the training sessions. He played little and ended up in a badly running team on Saturday.” Cocu told ed.nl

“To be honest, I did not see any of my players who played well against Willem II. Everyone was bad not him alone.”

Luckassen joined PSV last July from AZ Alkmaar where he was the star in the team having made 96 appearances and scoring eight goals since his promotion to the senior team in 2014.
