Phillip Boampong to undergo surgery in SA

Hearts of Oak defender Philip Boampong will undergo surgery on his right wrist in South Africa.

The 21-year-old centre-back has failed to recover from the recurrent injury that kept him out of action in the second-half of last season.

Attempts by local doctors to heal the player have been unsuccessful and team doctors have confirmed the rugged defender will need an operation to correct a problem.

"Boampong's situation needs immediate surgery before he can properly return to the pitch," the club's team doctor told the 90 Minutes newspaper.

"Until that is done, he would feel uncomfortable to playing because of the amount of pain that radiates from the affected writ anytime he attempt to train.

"Unfortunately we have the personnel but not the equipment."

It will be recalled midfielder Kofi Abanga and Richard Quarshigah underwent a similar exercise in South Africa to repair broken knees some few months back.
