Pioli: Lazio will finish strong after progressing in the Europa League

Published on: 25 February 2016

Lazio coach Stefano Pioli believes his side’s presence in the Round of 16 of the Europa League will help give them momentum to finish the season with a good run of results.

The Biancocelesti beat Galatasaray 3-1 at the Stadio Olimpico to make it to the next round with a 4-2 scoreline on aggregate.

“The goal we conceded was the only negative, we controlled the game without taking any risks,” said Pioli to Sky Sport Italia.

“In the first half we lacked some precision but then we did well after that.

“The group as a whole showed that they wanted to get through this round.”

The capital club’s coach was also asked about what he did during the half-time break after the first half finished goalless.

“I told the team to keep playing as they had been,” added Pioli.

“They were making us work a lot but we dealt well with that.

“I just looked to encourage the boys because they might have thought that they should have already been in the lead after 45 minutes and they looked a bit worried.

“If it wasn’t for one mistake it would have been a perfect evening.

“I’m very positive and I know my team’s quality, we can now aim to finish the season strong.”
