Player Ratings: Genoa 0-0 Lazio

Published on: 06 February 2016

Genoa and Lazio played a rather lethargic 0-0 draw on Saturday evening at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

In a match that featured a mere three shots on target, defense ruled all as neither side was able to seize any sort of initiative.

Mattia Perin – 6.5 – Stable

The goalkeeper didn’t have a whole lot to do but did make an impressive reflex save early on and controlled his box well.

Ezequiel Munoz – 5.5 – Uncomfortable

The Argentine was poor in possession and looked shaky in defense. He gains no points for his hard head, clashing with both Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and teammate Armando Izzo, leaving battle wounds on the noggins of both players. He was booked at the hour mark for a poor tackle on Filip Djordjevic.

Nicolas Burdisso – 6.5 – Calming

The captain was not called into much action but led by example, making the necessary clearances and organizing the backline.

Armando Izzo – 6.5 – Serviceable

Lazio decided that they would try to exploit the right side of the defense but the 23-year-old was not having it.

Cristian Ansaldi – 7 – Impressive

The Argentina had a very strong first half, providing great cover at the back and stifling Felipe Anderson time and time again. He also worked to build a couple of counters with impressive cross-field passes but was unfortunate to pull up with an apparent hamstring injury after 58 minutes.

Tomas Rincon – 6 – Functional

The midfielder could not contribute to the attack but worked to prevent Lazio from building much of their own.

Blerim Dzemaili – 6 – Firm

Like Rincon, Dzemaili was largely inept moving forward but his four tackles caused Lazio to think twice before attacking down his side of the midfield.

Diego Laxalt – 5.5 – Invisible

The young Uruguayan was utterly indiscernible but for the moments of poor passing.

Alessio Cerci – 5 – Unproductive

The winger’s extended run of poor form continues with a completely ineffective performance on the wing, looking almost as if he has forgotten what to do with a football before he was subbed off in the 69th minute.

Suso – 5.5 – Misjudging

Lots of running for the Spaniard, but struggled with his passing and decision making.

Leonardo Pavoletti – 6 – Isolated

The big centre-forward worked hard but was visibly frustrated at times with his lack of service.

Substitutes

Luca Rigoni (57 mins) – 6 – Secure

The substitute wasn’t worked as hard as Ansaldi but did well to close the space down his right side.

Panagiotis Tachtsidis (68 mins) – 6 – Imposing

The Grifone attempted to use the Greek’s size to build attacks and it worked to an extent, winning four aerial battles in his limited action.

Darko Lazovic (78 mins) – N/A

Lazio

Federico Marchetti – 6 – Spectator

The Italian international had virtually nothing to do for the entire 90 minutes but for a couple of punches in the second half.

Dusan Basta – 6 – Silent

The former Udinese man lasted only 45 minutes, replaced after halftime due to injury.

Mauricio – 6.5 – Solid

No news is good news for the strong Brazilian who formed one half of a strong defensive partnership.

Wesley Hoedt – 7.5 – Man of the Match

The Dutchman showed poise well beyond his 21 years, winning the ball on numerous occasions, both in the air and on the ground.

Abdoulay Konko – 7 – Engine

The left-back worked hard for 90 minutes, making several tackles and a goal line clearance as well as attempting to join the attack.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic – 6 – Useful

The Serbian was a monster in the air, winning a total of ten aerial duels, but was of little service otherwise.

Danilo Cataldi – 6.5 – Conspicuous

The Italian youth international should be commended for having the sole effort on target for the first 75 minutes and worked hard on both sides of the ball. He began looking tired and was eventually subbed off.

Marco Parolo 5.5 – Inconsequential

The 31-year-old failed to make an impact on the match and misplaced more than a third of his pass attempts.

Felipe Anderson – 6 – Imaginative

The gifted winger tried to make things happen in attack but was not able to find the right execution.

Filip Djordjevic – 5.5 – Ineffective

The Serbian failed to make himself a presence in the Genoa box and forced his team to try other avenues.

Stefano Mauri – 6 – Active

It was a lively display, albeit abbreviated, from the 36-year-old veteran, who worked to get himself into good positions and saw a decent glancing header effort clip off the top of the crossbar.

Substitutes

Patric (45 mins) – 6 – Quiet

Much like Basta in the first half, the young Spaniard had precious little to do with the bulk of the match played on the opposite side of the pitch.

Keita Balde (64 mins) – 6 – Reliable

The Senegalese starlet offered a different dynamic than that of Mauri and had the second of the two shots on goal.

Senad Lulic (77 mins) – N/A
