Players on Iran’s female soccer team are men

At least eight players on Iran’s national women’s soccer team are not actually women, according to regional reports lambasting the Islamic Republic for unethical practices.

These eight players have not fully completed sex change operations, yet they are currently playing for the Iranian female team, according to Arab language reports carried by Al Arabiya.

At least eight of the women “have been playing with Iran’s female team without completing sex change operations,” Mojtabi Sharifi, an Iranian official close to the league, was quoted as saying during an interview with the Iranian website, Young Journalists Club.

“The proportion of players in the team who were born men was not known,” according to the report cited by Al Arabiya.

Sharifii went on to disclose that some of those in question “have played as men their entire career but only revealed their gender on the last day of their duty.

This is not the first time Iranian female players have been accused of being men. The Telegraph carried similar reports in 2014.

Iran’s soccer governing authority has been described as “unethical.”
