Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi has made a shocking revelation that some players hide injuries just to make the Black Stars squad for major tournaments insisting they have measures in place to uncover hidden injuries.

The GFA boss was reacting to questions over the fitness of Ghanaian players ahead of the naming of the provisional Black Stars squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Some key players of the side are out nursing various degrees of injuries.

Players like John Mensah, Isaac Vorsah and Rabiu Mohammed are racing against time to prove their fitness in order to make the Ghana squad for the World Cup.

The GFA boss says though the coach will be relying mainly on expert views by doctors to select fit player for the World Cup, the job is made much difficult when players withhold vital information about the state of their health just to make the squad.

“The coach will rely on expert views of our doctors and their counterparts at the players’ respective clubs before naming the squad,” Nyantakyi told Montie FM.

“But the players are sometimes to be blamed for hiding injuries in order to make the squad only to be found out at the tournament.

“Not all injuries can be revealed through medical examination and when that happens you expect the players to come forth with information.

“But they don’t and in the process block the chance of other players and in the long run hurt the team at the tournament.”

Nyantakyi however warned that players found to be hiding injuries in order to make the Black Stars squad for major tournaments could suffer from future call ups.

“When player are found to have lied about the state of their fitness, it would affect their future call ups,” he adds.

“You will not be called again because then we will know you are dishonest.”

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah is expected to name a provisional 30-man squad for the World Cup by May 13.
