Kotoko defender Abeiku Ainooson says the players should be blamed for their early exit from the CAF Champions League.
The Ghanaian powerhouse bundled out at the first stage of Africa’s elite inter-club competition after losing on the away goals rule against Barrack Young Controllers.
The Liberian handed a narrow 1-0 win to leave the tie 2-2 but progressed on the virtue of the away-goals rule.
A lot of reasons are being professed for their failure to make a mark on the continent this year with allegations of bribery against goalkeeper Abdoulaye Soulama dominating the major talking points.
However, strong centre-back Abieku Ainooson, has issued an apology to fans for the team’s ‘unacceptable’ performance against their opponent, insisting the blame should fall solely on the players.
“I believe the players didn’t help the team because we possessed the ball in every department of play before conceding such a late goal so we they should blame we the players., he said
“As a players, I feel ashamed for not progressing into the next stage of the competition because I joined Kotoko to play in CAF competitions.
“I believe we the players didn’t do our best lift the team so the supporters should forgive us for letting them down this time round."
The Porcupine Warriors will now shift their attention to the domestic league and the FA Cup.
