Police are investigating an alleged racially aggravated assault on Manchester City's Raheem Sterling at the club's Etihad Campus.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed in a statement that they have been made aware of an incident at the club's Etihad Campus and are treating it as a "hate crime."

The Daily Telegraph reported that Sterling was allegedly kicked and racially abused as he arrived at the club's training ground on Saturday ahead of their 4-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

A statement from GMP said: "On Sunday, 17 December 2017, police were made aware that a 23-year-old man had been subject to a racially aggravated assault on Clayton Lane on Saturday, 16 December.

"While an official report has not yet been made, enquiries will be carried out and officers are treating it as a hate crime.

Raheem Sterling has been an important part of Manchester City's success so far this season.

"Hate crime will not be tolerated in Greater Manchester and can be reported via the True Vision website at report-it.org.uk

"Anyone with information about the incident should contact police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."

City have so far not commented on the incident.

Sterling scored twice in the 4-1 victory and manager Pep Guardiola made no mention of the incident in his postmatch news conference.
