Sellas Tetteh has quit his position as head coach of the Rwanda national football team on ‘personal grounds’.

The Ghanaian coach looks to have jumped before he was pushed.

The resignation comes just two-days after experiencing a brutal 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Ivory Coast in the 2012 Africa Nations Cup qualifiers.

The Ghanaian was brought in on the heels of guiding his nation to world cup glory at U-20 level, the first by an African country.

He signed a two-year deal in February 2010 to take charge of the Amavubi Stars through the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers but has since failed to make an impact as Rwanda have won only one of five matches in the competition.

"I have resigned as Amavubi head coach because of personal reasons," said Tetteh in his letter to the Rwanda FA (FERWAFA).

"I thank the Rwanda Football Federation, the ministry of youth, sports and culture and all for their support during y tenure."

During his short stint, Tetteh managed to qualify Rwanda to the Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) in Sudan early this year and also guided the side to the quarterfinals of the CECAFA Challenge Cup held in Tanzania last year.

But the weekend defeat by the Ivory Coast has left Rwanda bottom of Africa Cup of Nations qualifying Group H with only three points, a result the fans were really angered by.

Rwanda face Benin in the last group match, due to be played away in Porto-Novo on October 8.
