Pride and Passion: The success story of Karela United
Karela FC

Sekondi Hasaacas, Eleven Wise, New Edubiase and King Faisal- These are team synonymous with Premier League football and when they were grouped together in Zone 2 of the Division One league, one was tipped to return to the elite division.

UniStar Academy. Achicken FC, Karela United and Nzema Kotoko were all expected to play second fiddle to these established clubs for the sole promotion slot.

The scripts are however different after a stellar season from Nzema based Karela FC. The Nzema based club are the first to gain promotion to the 2018 league season with 5 games to spare with a whopping 21 point gap between them and second placed New Edubiase.

Having "Pride and Passion" as their motto, the team epitomized it in every way by delivering top notch performances filled with desire and ambition to bring smiles to the faces of the people of Nzema.

This did not come without adversity as they had to strive through trying times to reach the ultimate goal. The team was robbed at the residence of their technical team losing a 28-inches flat screen television and vital football equipment but it did not deter them fighting gallantly in every match.

They are still basking in its glory of promotion but the brain behind their success, Senator Cobbinah Brigidi, who took over the team from the cusp of relegation wants more.

He now aspires to become a football brand that would be known worldwide and according to the legal practitioner, structures are in place to ensure the club reaches higher heights

“The team monthly wage bill is about GHC 37,000 where the highest paid player receives GHC 800 and the least also gets GHC 300,” he told Asempa Sports.

Part of their plans is to improve the state of the pitch in Nzema which will soon become a Premier League center/

“I can tell you that we are still working on our park to meet the required standard. We already have a modern dressing room, VIP lounge, a restaurant and an aim of introducing the selling of seasonal tickets to attract a lot of supporters fill all empty seats during our home matches”.

Karela United Football club came about after Senator Cobbinah Brigidi took over the reins of the club in the second half of the 2013/2014 season from Metropolitan Sporting Club (Metro SC). Metro SC was on the brink of relegation prior to his taking over but 4 years down the line, the team will be boasting of Premiership status.
