Ghana youth international Rabiu Mohammed is line to be drafted into the Black Stars to replace  injured Michael Essien, understands.

The 20-year-old could be called up for next month's international friendly against Nigeria and the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Swaziland in September. sources say the 2009 Fifa Under-20 World Cup winner is regarded as a like-for-like replacement for the Chelsea ace who is out of action for six months.

Mohammed was rewarded with a three-year-deal this month by French Ligue 1 side Evian Thonon-Gaillard after impressing on loan last season.

He played for Ghana's Olympic team in the first leg 3-1 defeat to Nigeria in the All Africa Games qualifier.

Drafted into the Black Stars squad for the next matches? Yes. Rabiu would be another of the 2009 U-20 heroes who makes it into the Black Stars if that happens. But I think there are a number of other budding stars available to Plavi who could be a perfect replacement for Michael in a starting line up. Nevertheless, I wish Rabiu all the best.

@Abroad,Rabiu is a versatile midfielder. He can play in both defensive and offensive midfield, but i think there are so many better midfielders that can be perfect replacement for Essien.
