Defender Rashid Sumaila claims he is close to agreeing a deal to join Ghanaian Champions Asante Kotoko.

The Ebusua Dwarfs centre-back has been on the radar of both Kotoko and Hearts of Oak with the capital-based club believed to be leading the race for his signature.

It's been widely reported that Hearts has reached an agreement with Dwarfs over a potential transfer in the coming days.

But the tough tackling defender says he may find a new home in Kumasi barring any unforeseen circumstances.

“Officials of my club have been talking to Kotoko and hopefully, the future should be sorted out very soon,” Sumaila told Kumasi-based Fox FM

“They had the best offer from the numerous clubs that enquired about my availability. Officials of Dwarfs are willing to release me to Kotoko and according to them that will be the best place for me,”

“It will be a dream to play for the team. It is the biggest club and so every player will love to be part of that great team,”

“They won the League last season and so by God’s grace I hope the final details are sorted out soon so that I can join them.”

If the deal is concretized, it will be a major coup for the Porcupine Warriors as they would have stolen the march off their bitter rivals after some intense bidding.

The impressive work-rate of the 19-year-old has seen him earn two call-ups into the Black Stars

Sumaila came to prominence at the start of last season following his excellent performances for Ghana’s Under-23 side who won gold at the All Africa Games last September
