Ghana defender Rashid Sumaila made a huge injury return on Thursday afternoon inspiring Al Gharafa to a 2-0 win over Al Musaimeer SC in the Amir Cup clash.

Two first half goals from Vladimir Weiss and Razak Mohammed saw off a determined Musaimeer side bidding good bye to the competition.

The Ghana defender who played his first game after suffering a slight injury was instrumental at the back for the Leopards in a game they were overly defensive in the second half.

Sumaila had just a few days training sessions with Al Gharafa ahead of the clash but was hugely influential in guiding his side to the quarter finals of the competition.

The hardworking centre back will be aiming to to annex the trophy he won with Kuwaiti side Al Quadisa last year in his first season at the club.

The Leopards are strong bookie's favourite to win the coveted trophy this year.
