Referee attacked in Ghanaian second tier league match
Referee Ali Alhassan was attacked

Class One referee Ali Alhassan was attacked by irate fans in a second tier league match between Unity Stars and Techiman City in Goasu on Sunday.

The latest development comes just under a fortnight of the unfortunate death of referee Kwame Kyei Andoh who suffered beatings from fans days before his death.

Andoh’s sad demise has however done very little to deter supporters from charging on referees as fans of Unity Stars scaled the inner perimeter to discharge instant justice for a decision they deem unfair.

Referee Ali Alhassan disallowed a goal for the home side as he spotted an infringement in the build up.

The irate supporters of the home side however believed the goal should have been made to stand and therefore charged on the referee in the presence of just five personnel from the Ghana Police.

The game was halted for over 25 minute but continued when the melee died down.

Unity Stars eventually won the game in a 1-0 scoreline.

The Ghana FA is expected to take serious action against the unacceptable attacks and very inadequate security protection given match officials in the lower tier leagues.
