Referee ER Biney claims he was physically assaulted by organized Asante Kotoko supporters following the 1-0 defeat to Heart of Lions.

Irate supporters of the champions threw missiles at match officials in their protest of what they believe was poor officiating after the midweek defeat at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

Referee Biney has now accused Kotoko’s Public Relations Officer Ali Maradona of organizing supporters who dished him a good beating in the tunnel.

“Ali Maradona got some of the supporters into the tunnel to attack us when we were trying to escape the missiles being thrown at us,” he told Metro FM.

“The slaps I received in the tunnel alone....This is not the way Ghana football should go.

“A metal was even thrown at me but I used by left hand to shield the intended target which was my head.”

Kotoko risk harsh sanctions from the Ghana FA especially following the death of referee Kwame Kyei Andoh who died days after suffering physical assault in a lower tier league match.
