Acting Chairman of the Referees Association of Ghana Joe Debrah says the recent bribery chants by expelled Dwarfs coach J.E. Sarpong has vindicated referees.
To him, they have been accused of taking bribes on several occasions without evidence but the pronouncement by the veteran coach indicates that referees do not take bribes.
He argues that bribery takes place when you give someone something to influence him but since J.E Sarpong has revealed that club officials pocket the monies and do not pay to referees, there is no act of bribery.
“Many times, referees are chastised for taking bribes from clubs to manipulate matches. But here is a testimony that an official has taken money to pay referees but did not pay.
“This means that we are just blamed for nothing. So referees are vindicated.”
“These officials go round and take monies from their club executives that they are going to bribe referees but in the end they don’t even approach the referees,” Referee Joe Debrah told GHANAsoccernet.com
Coach Srapong accused the Team Manager of his former club Ebusua Dwarfs for pocketing monies meant for referees resulting in their poor show in the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League.
