Referees promise good season after GFA meeting

The Referees Association of Ghana (RAG) has promised that referees in the country will deliver a good season after meeting the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Premier League Board (PLB) ahead of the start of the new season.

The GFA and the PLB called the meeting with the match officials on Friday to discuss pertinent issues ahead of the start of the Ghana top-flight on Sunday.

The GFA announced that it is seeking sponsorship as well as an insurance package for referees in the Ghana Premier League to help improve their conditions of service.

The GFA and the PLB hailed the referees for their performances last season but encouraged them to continue to improve on their showing with fairness to all the clubs in the 16-team competition.

The GFA also called on the referees to take a strong stance against ball boys who intentionally disrupt play by throwing extra balls onto the pitch during matches.

The GFA assured the RAG that all efforts are being made to clear some of the outstanding payments from the matches they officiated in the second-half of last season.

The RAG expressed its gratitude to the GFA for engaging them in ‘constructive dialogue’ to help improve fortunes of referees in the country and promised that their members will be up to the task continue to improve their performances.

The RAG assured football fans that they will put up the best showing in the upcoming season.
