REVEALED: Why Andre Ayew failed to score in recent Swansea City matches
This heatmap shows where Andre Ayew spent most of his time - not in support of striker Bafetimbi Gomis

A switch in tactics by Swansea City coach Garry Monk has resulted in Andre Ayew's inability to score in their recent English Premier League matches, a heatmap of the movement of the Ghana international in their latest game has revealed.

The computer generated movements of the Ghana international in Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Southampton revealed that Monk has restricted him to the midfield instead of offering support to striker Bafetimbi Gomis.

This shows that Ayew has been deployed mainly on the left and right wings and was not involved much in the final third unlike in previous matches in the season.

Striker Bafetimbi Gomis, who has scored four in the league so far this season, went missing before he was found and substituted at half-time. His contribution? Seven passes in total, no efforts on goal and what is now his obligatory stray into an offside position.

Fellow attacking player Andre Ayew was busy, but not so much in the final third as he was involved in a team-high 17 duels in midfield - almost twice as many as his team-mates.

Ayew enjoyed a dream start to his career in the English top-flight, winning the best player award for the month of August after scoring three goals while supporting Gomis.

The Ghanaian scored in the memorable 2-2 draw at Chelsea, was on target again in the clash with Newcastle and another strike in the 2-1 home win over Manchester United.

But the Swans have been facing a difficult downward spiral in recent matches as they have lost all four matches in September and the change in tactics with Ayew dropping deep into midfield being blamed for the change in fortunes.
