Ghana are set to call-up Germany-based midfielder Gideon Jung to the senior national team the Black Stars as coach Avram Grant has been monitoring the Hamburg enforcer since the start of the season.

The 21-year-old, who plays for German Bundesliga side Hamburg, has been consistently monitored by Ghana coach Avram Grant since the youngster burst on the scene at the start of the season.

The midfielder impressed for Hamburg U23 side and trained on a couple of times with the first team squad before he was promoted at the start of the season.

His performances has forced coach Grant to monitor which could now result in his first call-up into the Black Stars.

“The FA is monitoring a lot of players,” Ghana FA vice president George Afriyie told Atinka FM when referring to the Hamburg youngster.

“The FA is [talking] to Partey, Inaki and another player from Germany - a lot of them.

“In monitoring, our lenses are on a lot of Ghanaians, but we have to leave that to the technical team.”

Jung joined Hamburg last season from German third-tier side Rot-Weiss Oberhausen.

The strong but lanky midfielder is versatile enough to play in both central defensive and defensive midfield roles.

Jung also talked about his Ghanaian background in an interview with the Hamburg SV media.

"My parents are from Ghana and lived in a town called Kumasi," he revealed.

Born to Ghanaian parents in Germany, the versatile midfielder, who can equally play in central defence, received a call-up from Germany under-21 team last September following his fine start to the season, but turned down the opportunity over injury concerns.
