REVEALED: Kwesi Appiah’s choice for Black Stars technical adviser job is Milovan Rajevac

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah after proposing the appointment of either Milovan Rajevac or Flemming Serritslev as the technical adviser for the Black Stars, told the search committee his preference lies with the Serbian trainer, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm.

The 54-year-old’s initial preference – Ben Koufie – was flatly rejected by the three-man search committee primarily due to his old age.

Appiah was afterwards offered four candidates – all expatriate coaches – to make a choice from.

He returned a day later and said his decision was down to two – Rajevac and Serritslev – but then he preferred the appointment of Rajevac due to their past relationship while both worked with the national team.

Appiah worked as an assistant coach during his time as head coach of Ghana between 2008 and 2010.

The duo formed an effective pair to guide Ghana to the finals of the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola where Ghana lost to Egypt by a lone goal and then came within a whisker of becoming the first African side to make it through to the semi finals of a World Cup months later in South Africa.

Appiah explained to the search committee, his maintained good relations with Milovan Rajevac makes him the preferred choice of Serritslev who he barely knows.

The Danish coach however remains an option if Rajevac proves to be an expensive bargain.

The former Vojvodina and Borac Cacak coach’s wage demands has shot up tremendously since leaving the Black Stars to land a highly lucrative deal with Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli.

He experienced a further increase in his wages when he was appointed head coach of Qatar a year later.

But the difference here will be the lessened magnitude of his work as a technical adviser as compared to when he is the head coach.

The three-man search committee have already initiated talks with Rajevac over his wage expectations and once an agreement is struck, he will be named the new technical adviser of the Black Stars per the preference of coach Kwesi Appiah.

The only thing that will prevent his appointment is if Ghana is unable to meet his financial demands. At that point, the opportunity pendulum will swing in the direction of Dane Flemming Serritslev.
